TextSTAT

TextSTAT is a free text analysis tool offered by Niederländische Philologie, FU Berlin. It is a simple program designed to accept plain text, HTML, Word and OpenOffice files to produce word frequency lists and concordances, and versions are available in English, German, Dutch, Portugese, Spanish, French, Italian, Galician, Finnish, Polish and Czech. TextSTAT also includes a web spider and news reader for adding web pages and news to a corpus.

FINNMORF

FINNMORF was a tool for generating full lexical paradigms for Finnish words. It modelled Finnish morphological competence, to facilitate identification of the most likely forms of a word within its context. Although the program could not select the correct form from context, the complexity of Finnish required sophisticated modelling to correctly determine the possible root form of a given word. As such, FINNMORF represented a significant contribution to computational linguistics.

SentiStrength

SentiStrength is a tool for sentiment analysis available for free to academic users (with registration), in Java and Windows-optimized versions. It estimates the strength of sentiment in short texts, and can handle informal language. Strength is expressed in a scale of 1 to 5 for positive sentiments, and -1 to -5 for negative; it also includes an option for assessing neutrality. SentiStrength is available for multiple languages, with extensibility for languages and contexts not already included. According to the developers, SentiStrength has human-level accuracy for short English texts. Commercial users must purchase a license.

Leximancer

Leximancer is an application for identifying key concepts in a text, and exploring the results through interactive visualizations and data exports. It includes concept and network cloud visualizations, a sentiment lens, a query system, and multiple data export options for futher analysis. The system accepts texts in a variety of formats including plain text, CSV, HTML and XML, and supports 17 languages beyond English. Users can either purchase a license for the desktop version (Windows and OS X supported), or purchase access to the online LexiPortal, which charges based on months of usage rather than on a subscription basis. A free trial of the LexiPortal is also available.
